I
would work to develop a “plan of accessibility” that
would make all of our parks available to all of our residents.
I would develop functional interactive access to all Regional
Parks by
first addressing the needs of east bay residents who do not
have the resources (i.e. transportation, information, money,
physical capability, etc.) to get to
the various parks in the District.
I would promote
health and disease prevention by developing
a campaign promoting the health
benefits of frequent park use. This would
also include expanding and developing new relationships
with other service providers (city recreation departments
& -medical service providers), expanding the trail resources
available
to responsible dog owners who benefit from the daily practice
of walking their dogs and many more interventions that
I have used in my forty years of practicing public
health.
I would create
special trails and areas for dogs that
would allow dogs to run free and not present any danger to
other park users or wildlife in the area.
I would improve
access for the disabled with special spur trails
off main trails and wheelchair van access that will take
visitors
out to
the pier at Point Pinole
Park as an example.
